This bold expression of Barbera is Sierra Highlands magic. Possessing a richness and structure not often found in Barbera, this wine is the perfect accompaniment to smoked or grilled meats, as well as hearty stews. Wafts of raspberry preserve, roasted cranberry, and tobacco rise from the glass, with hints of juniper berry, smoked cedar, cinnamon stick, and eucalyptus. The palate is bold and well-rounded with a delightful texture. Flavors of spiced cranberry compote, wild strawberry jam, earl grey tea, and a core of earthy complexity driven by notes of cigar box, toasted oak, and ginger molasses cookie. The finish is long and lingering, with a framework of polished tannins that keep you coming back sip after sip. This wine is drinking exceptionally well now, but will continue to age and evolve for the next 8 years.
